rom Pisac, following the Vilcanota River towards the
west, the narrow route between the river and the hills passes through
the towns of Calca, Yucay and Urubamba before arriving at Ollantaytambo.
Yucay is associated with some important events in Incan and colonial
history. In the spacious Plaza de Armas we find a beautiful, impressive
tree, the pisonay, whose leafy branches and beautiful flowers grant the
town an air of festivity and elegance
Pisaq
Today P'isaq constitutes one of the most important
Archaeological Parks in the region.
Urubamba which means "Flat land of Spiders" in
Quechua is a small town in Peru, located near the Urubamba River. The
town is located near a number of significant ruins of the Inca Empire,
and frequently houses tourists visiting those sites.
A typical Inca community located 21 km from Urubamba at 2,800 masl,
named in honour of the chief Ollanta, who was famous for courting an
Inca princess, daughter of Pachacútec.
(3,500 masl) lies just 7 km away from Maras, although the road to it
is not always in good condition. This community is famous for its
embedded amphitheatre.
Huchuyqosqo is an awesome Pre-Spanish monument, located in the top of
the Mountain Chain, from a league to the south of Calca, in the
department of Cusco.
